Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are smooth injectable gels used to restore or add volume to the face. Fillers vary in density (thickness) which determines which area they can be used in and helps achieve the desired result, whether that is to provide lift or contouring, create symmetry, or enhance a particular feature such as the lips. Many dermal fillers contain a compound that mimics the properties of a naturally occurring sugar molecule. This particular molecule assists in skin firmness and smoothness, by providing a kind of supporting network for other important structural tissue components, at the same time drawing moisture to the area and holding onto it. Over time, our natural levels of this compound diminish, which is where fillers can help – literally filling wrinkles and hollow areas from within.

When will I see results?

You will see results immediately after injection and the results will continue to improve/settle in over the next two weeks.

How long will the results last?

Results may last six months to three years with optimal correction depending on the location of injection and what formula of dermal filler is used. Dermal filler dissolves naturally with time, and without touch-ups it will completely disappear. The longevity of a dermal filler treatment has some variability between patients due to factors such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle, age and metabolism.

Are there any side effects from dermal fillers?

The most common side effects from a treatment with dermal fillers is temporary discomfort. Additional side effects from dermal fillers can include the possible bruising and swelling of the treated area. It is advised that you refrain from exercising immediately before and after a treatment with dermal fillers. It is also advised that you avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatories for two weeks before a dermal fillers are used, to minimise the occurrence of bruising.

Do the injections hurt?

What is the cost of dermal filler injections?

Dermal fillers are priced according to the type and amount used. The volume used is based on the amount of volume loss that you want treated. As the most common dermal fillers are pre-packaged in 1 ml syringes, we generally work in volumes of unit mls.
